Certificate of Operation: Elevator

How long does it usually take to have a certificate of inspection posted on the elevator? The ones in our building have expired since August 7, 2012 and we are still using the elevator.

I checked with our company and we were advised by the building Admin that they are just waiting for the certificate from the city of Taguig. I am not sure if the one at fault here is the Admin (MegaWorld) for I am not sure if they really had the elevators inspected or the city of Taguig for being really slow in releasing the certificate. It's already 2014 so there is already two certificates pending.

The safety of the tenants in the building is a concern so I hope the Admin of Three World Square and the Office of the Building Official of Taguig looks into this.

Buffalo Wings N' Things

Looking for really spicy buffalo wings? They have it at Buffalo Wings N' Things.

When I initially saw the different levels of spiciness, I was giddy. Being a lover of spicy food, I knew I would enjoy this.

The different levels of hot or Heat Indicator is below.

I initially tasted the Honey BBQ, The Rookie and Firehouse Classic. I was playing it on the safe side since I don't know how hot these things are. And what do you know, I was able to handle it. I said to myself that next time, I will try the really hot ones. Those that needed a waiver before you can have some!

There are three levels that needed a waiver, K-bomb, Ultimate Wingsanity 1.0 and Ultimate Wingsanity 2.0. I opted to have the K-bomb first just to try it out. And of course, waiver first!

It was really really spicy but it can still be eaten and still taste the chicken. Make sure you have soda or cold water ready just in case you can't take it.

Aside from Wings, they also have burgers, fries, nachos, ribs and others.

The service is good as well (I ate at both times at the Glorietta 5 branch). The servers graciously answer any question you may have pertaining to the menu and they check up on you as well during the meal to see if everything is good.

I will definitely go back here for both the service and the food. And maybe try the Ultimate Wingsanity 1.0!

Uber - Everyone's private driver

I was very recently introduced to a new app by a friend. I was told that this Uber app is for a car service. I imagined it was something like GrabTaxi which I have used a couple of times already. I asked some questions and got a better idea on what it is.

Uber is actually a car service which gets you from point A to point B. You might say it is like a cab, but it reality, it isn't. Why? Instead of getting in to a car which is definitely a cab, you will be getting into a private car. These cars are not the ones that are just driven by ordinary people who have cars though. These are the car service providers that are rented by hotels and the likes.

Here in Manila, an example of the car company being used is Europcar. I had the chance earlier to talk to my driver and found nice to know information. From their company, there are only currently 5 cars rented by Uber. There are other car companies that have tie-ups with Uber but he does not know which as well as how many cars are rented. Also, their current hours of operation are from 7am-1am. I checked on my housemate who recently used the app as well and she was told by her driver that theirs is from 6am-2am. I guess her driver must have been from another company hired by Uber then. In any case, the hours of operation are near 24 hours. They are currently checking on the demand and will adjust accordingly based on their Facebook account.

Now, let's talk about the rates. Base fare is P90 + P2.10/minute + P12.92/km. In effect, you will have a minimum fare of P120. If you have already confirmed a request then decided to cancel it, you will be charged P100. Question is, how will you be charged if you cancel the service, via credit card. During the registration process, you will be asked to put in basic information such as your name, email address, phone number and the mode of payment which is either via credit card or Paypal. So if the driver already received the request and then you cancelled, P100 charged automatically to your credit card/Paypal account. This is pricey as compared to using GrabTaxi but once you get to use it, you will know why.

Take note though that there are flat rates if you are going to or coming from the airport.

Manila Airport - Makati CBD / Forbes Park / McKinley Hill / DasmariƱas Village / Taguig / Fort Bonifacio / Manila / Baywalk / Pasay - P700

Manila Airport - Green Hills / San Juan / New Manila / Mandaluyong / Pasig / Ortigas - P800

Manila Airport - Quezon City - P1,000

Once you get to your destination, you obviously won't have to pay the driver. He will be clicking on the "End Trip" button on his iPad mini on his dashboard and you will then get a message on the app regarding the fare. You will also be sent an email on the corresponding charges like the one below.

You might be wondering though as to why I was not charged for my ride? This is because they have an ongoing "thing" wherein you can get P1,000 credit when you enter a code during the registration process. You may want to use my code to get the credit so here it is:

By the way, aside from the receipt that will be sent to your email address, you will also get a snapshot of the route that you took. It looks like this.

Uber is both available on iOS and Android.

Republ1c Wakepark Review

Do you want to experience how to wakeboard but don't want to go as far as Bicol? Don't worry as the closest one is located in Laguna!

Last December 26, I went to Republ1c Wakepark with my mom and my brother to try it out. We were looking for an activity we could do as a group since it is rare that all three of us are together. The place is located at this address: West Diversity Boulevard, Nuvali, Calamba, Laguna.

Getting there

There's no way of getting to this place by public transportation. You would really have to have a private car. The place is difficult to get to since the map provided on the website is not the detailed. We tried the navigation via Google Map but we were asked to go through a route where only vehicles with Nuvali stickers can pass through. We had to turn back and look for the entrance where outsiders can enter. It is inside a subdivision so you would have to leave your driver's license at the entrance.

Rates

We arrived there at around noon and was surprised to see that there were lots of guests already. We then went inside to check the rates.

Day rate: 0830 - 1730
1 hour pass - 250
2 hour pass - 475
4 hour pass - 595
8 hour pass - 995

Night rate: 1800 - 2200
1 hour pass - 350
2 hour pass - 600
4 hour pass - 800

We opted for the 1 hour pass since we are new and just want to experience how it is to do this activity. Aside from the "cable rates" above, you would also have to rent the life vest and helmet (if you don't have your own) and the RFID band. The RFID band is where they put in the number of hours for you paid for. I don't know why it has to be an RFID band when there were no device to tap it into or anything. It could have been a regular bracelet of sort and it would have done the same purpose.

Life Vest and Helmet - 600
RFID - 200

The fees for the life vest, helmet and RFID are refundable so it's really the cable rates that you would have to spend on. The helmets and the RFID are in good condition. The life vests on the other hand are almost wrecked.

The Park

There are lots of obstacles for enthusiasts in the park. I really don't know these terms but after checking their website, there are obstacles such as kickers, step-up rails, flat bar, roof top and skatebox among others. There are actually 13 different obstacles you can choose from.

Ammenities

There is a restaurant in the venue where you can buy food and drinks. I did not get the chance to see though if they serve alcoholic beverages. There are limited number of tables available for the resto though as most tables are occupied by the companions of those who are wake-boarding and some tables are just used as "lockers" as stuff are just laid down there.

They also have a big changing room and shower area. The area is pretty dark considering we were there at noon. Lights are very limited. There are around 6-8 shower stalls but there were only 2 that were working! Most stalls have the shower handle broken off so you really can't use them. This is really disappointing since the park in itself is big so there has to be a shower area that can handle the volume of guests.

Service

Customer service is lacking in this area. It was pretty obvious at the onset that it was our first time to do this activity and we were not informed by the receptionist on the amenities on the park. We had to find it our for ourselves. We actually went to try to wakeboard on the "professional" area with disastrous results. We were later informed by the operator that there was an area at the back where beginners like us can try out.

Another item to take note of is security or lack thereof. As mentioned earlier, the tables at the restaurant are already being used to just leave stuff around as the guests take turns on wake-boarding and some are used by the companions. These companions don't have to pay anything to enter the park, which means that basically anyone can enter the park! There were no guards roaming the area, no CCTV so thieves can easily steal from bags or bags themselves that are left unattended.

My brother told me that they may be short staffed that day as it is the holiday season. I cannot accept this if it is indeed the case. Dec 26 is not even a holiday and guests deserve good service no matter what day.

Conclusion

I would definitely go back here given the chance. Even if I was not successful in completing a turn, I still had lots of fun. I got to try something new and bonded with my mom and brother as well. The areas for improvement was not enough to dampen the fun that I enjoyed at this place.

Go try it out yourself and tell me it went for you!
